Citrus greening is destroying the world's citrus crops.
Citrus greening (Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus) is a bacteria spread by a disease-infected insect called the Asian citrus psyllid. It is also known as HLB (Huanglongbing) or yellow dragon disease. It makes fruit look ugly and taste bitter. Eventually, it kills the trees it infects.
Citrus greening is at a crisis level in the state of Florida and is also spreading to other citrus-growing areas across the United States. An October 2015 USDA report found Florida crop output plummeting, with oranges down 17%, navels down 21%, early season tangerines down 29% and grapefruit down 5%. Overall orange production in Florida has declined from a high of 244 million 90-pound boxes in the 1997-1998 growing season to 80 million boxes in the 2015 season. The state agricultural commissioner says the formerly $9 billion/year industry is “in a fight for its life.” Simix Agriculture has found the solution to citrus greening. Our products help trees resist citrus greening and promote plant density and root strength. Trees that are treated with Simix have been proven to recover from citrus greening. |
